Kharkov Mayor wakes in Israel after shooting, surgery

Jewish Mayor of Kharkov Gennady Kernes, regained consciousness at the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, stated Kharkov’s chief rabbi and Chabad emissary, Rabbi Moshe Moskovitz on the Chabbad news site.

Kernes has served as mayor of the second-largest city in Ukraine since 2010.

He was shot by an, as of yet, unknown attacker last week while jogging in the eastern Ukrainian city. After emergency surgery in Kharkov, he was transported to Israel and finally underwent his second operation at Rambam Medical Center.
