Tamas Sneider, the former leader of a skinhead gang, was chosen as the deputy speaker of the Hungarian Parliament on Tuesday. A legislator for  Jobbik, Hungary's third largest faction and an alleged neo-Nazi party, Sneider has a violent history. In 1992 he received a suspended sentence for the beating of a member of Hungary's Roma minority. Jobbik won one fifth of the vote in last month's Parliamentary elections.

According to media reports, 150 members of the 199 seat legislature voted for Sneider's appointment to the position, including many members of the ruling Fidesz party.
