A police officer and seven Egged bus passengers were lightly injured during separate rock-throwing attacks near the Temple Mount,  and in east Jerusalem, just outside the Old City Wednesday afternoon, police said.

According to a police official, the officer was injured during a riot on the Temple Mount Wednesday morning upon opening the main gate to the holy site. Officers used stun grenades to disperse over 100 assailants who took refuge in Al Aqsa Mosque.

Later that evening, seven passengers on an Egged bus were lightly hurt by stones thrown at them as the bus approached the Old City.

Police were searching the area for suspects.
The attacks occurred as thousands of Israelis took to the streets to celebrate Jerusalem Day, marking the 47th anniversary of the reunification of the city. The celebrations were met with small demonstrations by Palestinians in the Old City.
