French participation in Birthright to increase

Approximately 700 French Jews will come to Israel on free Birthright trips this summer, according to the Jerusalem and Diaspora Affairs Ministry.

Diaspora Affairs Minister Naftali Bennett, who chairs the steering committee of Taglit-Birthright, decided in January to increase funding for French participation in the mostly American program.

"We set France as a priority and the new numbers speak for themselves. Birthright has proven itself as a key program for bolstering Jewish identity and I am certain that it will be an invaluable experience for these French participants," Bennett said on Monday.
