In an effort to improve service quality on Israel Railways, inspectors will begin monitoring various aspects of train operations in July, the Transportation Ministry announced on Wednesday.

Yavne-based quality control firm System Advanced Laboratories Ltd. won the Transportation Ministry tender to oversee the venture, and will be activating for the first time both undercover and visible monitors to evaluate services during all hours of train activity.

The inspectors will assess the level of passenger service and compliance to standards set by the Transportation Ministry.

During their assessments, the System inspectors will place particular focus on noting the accuracy in departure and arrival times, train density and station delays, the ministry said.

The inspectors will also evaluate other Israel Railways services, such as the website, the call center, complaint procedures and lost-and-found locations.

Bringing in the inspectors will enable the ministry to enforce existing irregularities from an administrative perspective, as well as provide decision-makers with reliable and timely information about train operations, according to Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz.
