British prime minister to meet with Salaam Fayad

Britain's prime minister was scheduled to meet with his Palestinian counterpart Tuesday amid warnings of a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, after Israel cut off fuel supplies to the territory in response to a spike in rocket fire. Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salaam Fayad planned to talk with British premier Gordon Brown, Foreign Secretary David Miliband, and International Development Secretary Douglas Alexander on Tuesday, the Palestinian General Delegation to the United Kingdom said. Neither Palestinian nor British officials offered any detail on the agenda of the meetings, which come as humanitarian organizations warn that Gaza could run out of water and food if the Israeli blockade continues. The international aid agency Oxfam said the territory's water and sewage systems were only hours away from almost total shutdown, because only 37 of Gaza's 122 water supply pumps had fuel and most were about to run out.
