'Manufacturing, public admin workers' wages see drop'

CBS data on average monthly wages by sector shows increases in pay in education, financial institution sectors since 2009.

The Central Bureau of Statistics on Sunday released its annual report, which provides data on the average monthly wages per employee by sector between 2009 and 2011.
A decreasing monthly wage was apparent in many fields, such as manufacture and public administration. Increases were seen in the wages of employees in the education sector as well as the banking and finance sector.

In the manufacturing sector, wages of employees involved in the production of paper and paper products decreased from 2009’s average of NIS 9,061 to NIS 8,602 in 2011. The same trend was displayed in the manufacture of refined petroleum and nuclear fuel, chemicals and chemical products, which saw a drop from NIS 14,339 to NIS 13,845 between 2009 and 2011. The wages of employees working in the production of machinery and heavy equipment increased from NIS 12,470 in 2009 to NIS 13,201 in 2011.
Workers in the production of electronic communication equipment received less pay this year, with wages averaging NIS 18,922 in 2011 and NIS 19,469 in 2009. Similarly, employees involved in the production of industrial equipment for control and supervision and medical and scientific equipment suffered the same trend, as their wages decreased from NIS 18,677 in 2009 to NIS 18,058 in 2011. However, in the sector of manufacture of transport equipment, average wages rose from NIS 13,422 in 2009 to NIS 14,036 in 2011.
Public administration wages dropped drastically from an average of NIS 13,808 in 2009 to NIS 12,906 in 2011. Employees working in the administration of local authorities received less pay this year compared to 2009, with a drop from NIS 10,092 to NIS 9,353 respectively. Wages in the public administration of the state and the national institutions also dropped from 2009’s average of NIS 15,436 to 14,505 in 2011.
The wages of employees in the sector of electricity and water supply sector decreased from 2009 to 2011, with averages equaling NIS 21,126 and NIS 20,936 respectively.
Labor and political organization employees also suffered a drop in pay this year, with their wages dropping from NIS 6,118 to NIS 5,634 between 2009 and 2011.
