Members of Israel's Batsheva Dance Company has gotten the year 2007 off to a busy start, traveling on the second day of the new year to participate in the Sydney Festival, Australia's prestigious cultural showcase featuring theater, dance and visual arts from around the world. More than 500 performers from Australia and overseas will take part in the 10-day festival, which began in 1977 and now attracts roughly one million spectators each year. Batsheva dancers launched the festival with the group's signature Telophaza, the first dance piece performed at this year's event. Members of the dance company will appear before Australian audiences a total of 20 times before the festival concludes Monday, also performing the group's Kamuyot and Mamutot pieces. Batsheva dancers will also perform for students and meet with local dancers and choreographers during the visit. Click for upcoming events calendar!
