The Tel Aviv District Court found Shai Simon guilty on Sunday of killing Meital Aharonson and injuring Mali Yazdi in a Tel Aviv hit-and-run in October 2008.
Shalom Yemini, who was first thought to have been the driver, was acquitted of manslaughter but found guilty of leaving the scene of an accident.
The prosecution had been requesting of the court to change the indictment and charge that Simon had been sitting in the driver’s seat at the time of the killings, but the court refused the request, Israel Radio reported.
“What we have here is an extreme instance of reckless driving within city limits,” Judge Tzvi Gorfinkel said. Gorfinkel found Simon guilty of destroying evidence and driving under the influence of alcohol.
