Six young Iranians in trouble after making video of themselves dancing on Tehran rooftops to Pharrell Williams' song Happy.

A group of six young Iranians were arrested for appearing in a video cover of Pharrell Williams' song "Happy," the Guardian reported on Wednesday.

The video shows the group of men and unveiled women dancing on rooftops in Tehran to Williams' hit song.

Following their arrests, the group appeared on Iranian state-run TV on Tuesday, admitting that what they did was wrong and said the video was not meant to be posted online. "They had promised us not to publish the video," one of the young women arrested said on the show.

Fans have flocked to social media to express their reactions to the arrests and have begun to use the #FreeHappyIranians hashtag. "It is beyond sad that these kids were arrested for trying to spread happiness," Williams said on his Facebook page along with a link about the incident.

Journalist Golnaz Esfandiari  wrote on his Twitter account "Iran is a country where being "happy" is a crime."

Since the original music video premiered, fans from around the world have created their own versions of the music video, including several versions from around Israel.
