The Sling Shot is a ride that shoots you at 180 km/h into the darkness of the Tel Aviv sky - so that you float amidst and above the lights, the clouds, the skyscrapers, the ocean, junk yards, and parking lots. Located right near the old port nightlife complex, the Sling Shot is where you end the night with a bang - an after-party 100 m in the sky - from which you bounce down from beats blasting from the speakers below. The management assures that Sling Shot is completely safe. It received the German "TUV" safety rating, the highest standard, and not one accident has ever occurred on the 55 machines in operation throughout the world. Although this assurance may not undo the impression that at any moment the cables holding the capsule might break. But if there weren't that slight fear - how much fun would the ride really be anyway? That's exactly its point. If you want to get over any fears, this is a good place to start. And if your scared, mosey on over to the bars in the vicinity and have a traditional shot to loosen up beforehand. It doesn't matter if you "mix drinks," the management says. Unlike traditional roller coasters, the Shot is smooth and won't make you queasy. And if you're still scared, then you probably need to go on it more than anyone - twice in a row recommended. Old Tel Aviv Port (follow the lights and screams). Prices: NIS 60/jump; NIS 25/DVD; NIS 125/2 jumps + DVD. Happy hour: 4 pm - 12 am: NIS 60/2 jumps. Hours: 4 p.m. - 5 a.m. This article was originally published on Jul 22, 2005
