NIS 85,000 raised to support orphans of IDF soldiers in annual soccer quiz

NIS 85,000 was raised by the IDF Widows & Orphans Organization (IDFWO) at their annual soccer quiz on Wednesday, July 4 to support orphans whose parents lost their lives fighting in the IDF. The money surpassed the goal of NIS 70,000, which was set in honor of Israel's 70th anniversary. It will be used to send 50 IDF orphans in Israel and abroad to summer camps. Hosted at Tarlah pub in Petah Tikva for the fourth year in a row, the participants were mainly immigrants from Britain with a love for soccer. Israeli soccer player Maor Buzaglo volunteered to attend the event and granted one lucky raffle winner the grand prize of the evening: a signed soccer shirt. “I was excited to take part in a special evening,” Buzaglo said. “Assistance in any form or shape to the IDF and the security forces' orphans is a noble goal.” Other groups who donated prizes include the Israel Football Association who donated tickets to the Israel national soccer team's game, the Flying Carpet company who donated a couple vacation in Salonika and EL AL who donated two flights to Europe. CEO of the IDFWO Yuval Lipkin thanked everyone who contributed to the event and was excited for what the money could do. “The most important of all is that we have crossed the threshold of NIS 85,000 that will be used to send 50 IDF orphans to summer camps – and for that I am proud and excited,” Lipkin said.
