US President Donald Trump blamed Democrats for the recent government shutdown and renewed his pledge to construct a wall on the country's southern border in a video released on Twitter Saturday.

"Our great country must have border security," Trump said.
Speaking alongside images of the migrant caravan to the US from Mexico after traveling from various countries in South America Trump warned that "we don't want people coming in who're not supposed to be here."
"It's very dangerous out there," he said, "drugs are pouring in, human trafficking, so many different problems...including gangs...we Don't want them in the United States."

"We don't want them in our country."

Pointing to "great border security" as the only thing that can stop illegal immigration, Trump said that border security would be impossible to attain unless a barrier is erected at the border.

"Everybody wants to see our border protected," he went on to say, before blaming Democrats who now control the Senate for the recent shutdown of the federal government.

"We're going to have a shutdown, there's nothing we can do about that," he said, "because we need the democrats to give us their votes."

He called on Democrats to work alongside him and expressed hope the shutdown will not last long.

Speaking earlier tonight  Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said on the Senate floor that "President Trump has thrown a temper tantrum and now has us careening towards a 'Trump shutdown' over Christmas."

"You're not getting the wall today, next week or on January 3rd, when Democrats take control of the House," Schumer added.
