American pop singer Lana Del Rey announced on Friday that her Tel Aviv concert scheduled for August 20 has been pushed back to another date due to the ongoing crisis in the south.
Those who purchased tickets for the concert will be notified of an alternate date. Organizers for the show said that the original tickets will be honored.
Del Rey was due in Israel for her first-ever show on August 20 at the Trade Fairs and Convention Center in Tel Aviv.
The sultry songstress was supposed to be one of a number of big names that were scheduled to appear for much-anticipated shows this summer. In light of the ongoing conflict in and around the Gaza Strip, however, big acts were forced to postpone their shows.
Legendary rocker Neil Young, who was due to perform in Tel Aviv last month, was forced to bow out due to the latest outbreak of hostilities between Israel and Hamas.
American heavy metal giants Megadeth, who have appeared in Israel three times, and whose leader Dave Mustaine repeatedly expressed support for the country during the past month, bowed out of their scheduled show at the Tel Aviv Exhibition Center this week in a last-minute announcement.
Also on Monday, promoters of an August 19 show in Jerusalem by hip hop singer and former The Voice judge Cee Lo Green announced its cancellation.
Carmi Whurtman of 2b Vibes, which was producing the show, posted on his Facebook page that the decision was his and not that of Green’s management.
“The artist and his crew really wanted to come, but unfortunately we were the ones who had to postpone it because this is not the right time to advertise and push a concert and also because Israel Defense Forces’ regional Home Front Command allows gathering of up to a thousand people only,” he wrote.
Del Rey is known for hits like “Video Games,” “Summertime Sadness” and “Young and Beautiful,” and has called her vintage Americana-inspired style “gangster and Nancy Sinatra.”
Her latest single, “West Coast,” was released in April ahead of her highly anticipated album Ultraviolence, scheduled to be released in late May.
The New York native was catapulted to fame with the release of her number-one album Born to Die in January 2012. She has since earned numerous awards and nominations including two BRIT awards and two Grammy nominations.
