Spiderman is Jewish, screen star tells British paper

Andrew Garfield, who plays Peter Parker in Amazing Spider-Man 2, identifies what he thinks are Jewish traits in the superhero.

The eponymous hero of the upcoming film Amazing Spider-Man 2 is Jewish, star Andrew Garfield told Time Out Magazine, according to a report in the Independent.

“Spider-man is neurotic. Peter Parker is not a simple dude. He can’t just switch off,” The Independent quoted the British actor as telling Time Out.

Garfield plays Peter Parker in the movie that is currently in theaters.

“He never feels like he’s doing enough. And Peter suffers from self-doubt. He ums and ahs about his future because he’s neurotic. He’s Jewish. It’s a defining feature.”

Garfield. whose father is Jewish, said that he hopes that “Jewish people won’t mind the cliché.” He also compared the Marvel comic book character to Jesus.
