The Suzanne Dellal Dance Center at Neveh Zedek in Tel Aviv is celebrating its 20th birthday with a three-week dance and music bash from May 14 to June 4. Shows will be on a huge purpose-built stage on the plaza surrounded by seating for some 1,000 people.
Events open with a one-time-only appearance by the exciting and eclectic Balkan Beat Box band together with excerpts from choreographer Barak Marshall's Monger, which uses BBB tracks.
By special arrangement with the Israel Festival, there will be performances by the Spanish National Ballet and the Canadian Grand Ballet Montreal. The Spaniards are coming with Gnawa, Castrati and To Die for You by artistic director and renowned classical choreographer Nacho Duato, while the Canadian company presents works by Stijn Celis and Mauro Bigonzetti.
Batsheva Dance, at home at Suzanne Dellal from the beginning, presents a 20-year collage of Ohad Naharin pieces. There will also be shows from Vertigo, Tararam and Ido Tadmor.
Musically, the lineup includes Ehud Banai, Hava Alberstein and The Apples, as well as Rita and Mosh Ben-Ari with selections from their latest albums. The opening show will be the Idan Raichel Project, with guest star Martha Gomez.
Not to forget the young set: The whole family can enjoy Mr. Zuta and the Apple Tree from the Orna Porat Children and Youth Theater.
The budget for the event is NIS 3 million. The Suzanne Dellal family, the Foreign Office, the Spanish and Canadian embassies and the Tel Aviv Centennial Committee are among the sponsors.
