Beit Lessin general director Tzipi Pines will receive an honorary doctorate from Ben-Gurion University in Beersheba for her contribution to Israeli culture in general and to theater in particular. Among the rest, the citation praises Pines's unrelenting dedication to excellence and her unswerving support for Israeli drama. She is also praised for her vigorous promotion of culture in the South, and especially in Beersheba. Pines has headed Beit Lessin since 1994 and from 1981 to that time ran the Beersheva Theater. Under her stewardship, Beit Lessin has morphed into one of the country's major repertory theaters. She will receive her honorary degree from BGU president Prof. Rivka Carmi on Ben Gurion Day, December 3.
