Dana International will represent Israel in Stockholm on July 31 at the European Gay Pride Parade. International became an Israeli gay pride icon following her Eurovision win in 1998, and she has performed at gay pride events in San Francisco, London, Berlin and Madrid. International will open the Stockholm event in a performance for tens of thousands of Europeans. "Even though the audience comes from different places and speaks different languages, there is an atmosphere of one large family," International said in a statement. "And what most excites me is that I am going to be there as a representative of the State of Israel; Jews who come to these shows wave Israeli flags - that always makes me choke up, seeing those flags among the celebrants... I enjoy explaining that our country is much more open and liberal than it is portrayed in the media."
