3. UNIQUE COLLABORATIONS
The winter edition of the Red Sea Jazz Festival opens next Thursday in Eilat, with a jam-packed international array of ensembles and unique collaborations, such as the Juan Carmona Quintet with Larry Coryell, the Samuel Yirga Quartet, Anat Fort and Amos Hoffman. The streets of Jerusalem will be transformed into art and music venues every Monday evening through the month of February as part of the Shaon Horef Festival. A new exhibition “Body Traces” by Alina Szapocznikow (1926-1973), one of Poland’s foremost artists, opens next week at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Szapocznikow’s artistic activity was short-lived but yielded a cycle of radical, reflexive works that embodied the artist’s traumatic biography – life in concentration camps and terminal illness – while resonating with surrealist aesthetics, nouveau réalisme and pop art.

10. FAIRYTALES AND ECONOMICS
A new exhibition at the Holon Digital Art Center, “Over and Over the Rainbow,” examines how the reality of our lives is dictated by the basic themes of children’s fairy-tales. Eleven local and international artists, such as British artist Jeremy Deller and Danish art group Superflex, examine the connection between fairytales and neo-liberalism in economics.
