Chill out and get ready for the weekend with a bottle of bubbly and an array of
tapas every Friday starting at 1 p.m. at Shampina, a wine and tapas bar situated
on Sderot Rothschild, the prettiest and bubbliest street in Tel
Aviv.
Sitting on the vast porch overlooking the crowds walking by, one
can enjoy champagne or Cava, nosh on tasty tapas and listen to chill-out music
played by a DJ. Every Friday afternoon the bar offers a selection of name brand
sparkling wines at 50% off the menu price.
Dishes include very good
spinach felafel in yogurt sauce (we ordered two), mushrooms cooked in champagne,
beetroot salad with wasabi and feta cheese, meat or cheese platters, and
heartier dishes such as an entrecote sandwich served with potatoes, which is
excellent, and other meat or fish dishes.
There are a few seating areas:
inside, outside and in a private room at the far end, but the reason to come
here is the vast selection of bubbly and other wines from many countries –
France, Spain, Italy, Argentine, America and Israel, of course, all reasonably
priced.
It’s a great place for big parties or an intimate tete-a-tete, so
long as you’re holding a glass.
