American art-rock band Xiu Xiu will be coming to Israel next week to play two post-Shavuot shows, one in Jerusalem and one in Tel Aviv.
Xiu Xiu (pronounced shoe-shoe) have been active for almost an entire decade, releasing creative albums and music videos that have not gone unappreciated by music lovers worldwide.
The band was founded by frontman Jamie Stewart, a California-based singer-songwriter and all-around colorful character, in 2002. Stewart’s bandmates are Angela Seo and percussionist Ches Smith, who performed here last week with the band Secret Chiefs 3.
With the release of each of their ten albums, Xiu Xiu have sought to
redefine the noise and decadence on which rock ’n’ roll relies,
stretching despair to the limit in lyrics which are dark and highly
personal, but coating it with music that owes much to synthpop.
Xiu Xiu play at the Yellow Submarine
in Jerusalem on May 19 and at Levontin 7 in Tel Aviv on the following
evening. Tickets cost NIS 100 and can be purchased at the venues or at
Tel Aviv’s Prozdor bar.
