Named by TIME magazine as one of the top 10 best electric guitarists of all time, the 47-year-old Malmsteen emerged as a standout virtuoso in the 1980s, releasing a string of mind-boggling albums displaying his nimble dexterity which often incorporated neo-classical leanings, high-speed picking and sweep picked arpeggios. Malmsteen has continued to release solo albums, and in 2003, he joined fellow gunslingers Joe Satriani and Steve Vai as part of the G3 supergroup. In 2007, Malmsteen was honored in the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II. Players can receive the “Yngwie Malmsteen Award” by hitting 1,000 or more notes in succession.
