So, now comes the question of which side is to blame for this seemingly endless conflict. Of course, Israel has to be the culprit! Everybody knows that Jews building homes inside of territory that in 1995, was negotiated and agreed upon by both sides to be part of Israel, is more harmful to the peace process than Palestinian terrorism.
Now I'm sure that logic sounds reasonable in some far-off fantasy world, but here on planet Earth, it doesn't.
Here's a fun fact, in the Camp David Accords in 2000, it was then-Palestinian President Yasser Arafat who flatly rejected an Israeli offer to nearly all of the West Bank and the Temple Mount. However, Yasser Arafat was not the type of leader to not return favors. As a demonstration of gratitude to the Israelis for their generosity, he used the failed negotiations as fuel for the second Palestinian Intifada.
Don't believe it is the Palestinians? Don't take it from me, take it from the Palestinian President himself! You know, the man who said that every drop of blood spilled in Jerusalem is welcome. Now that sure does not sound like something someone who was striving towards peace would say. Could it be that the liberal media is wrong, and the Palestinians are at fault for all of this?
Contrary to popular myth and what CNN loves to force-feed you, the conflict between Palestinians and Jews in the land of Israel did not begin with the creation of the State of Israel. As a matter of fact, Palestinians started killing Jews around the same time that Jimmy Carter began to lose his baby teeth.
I am having great difficulty remembering that time Mahmoud Abbas said that in any future peace agreement, he would recognize Israel's right to exist as a Jewish State. Although it could just be I have a bad memory, it is pretty obvious that if the Palestinian President himself will not recognize Israel's right to exist, what possible good could come out of any future negotiations?
Now everyone knows that if there's ever to be hope of a lasting peace, the generations to come on both sides must be taught tolerance and how to coexist with the other side. Apparently this novel idea has not reached the Palestinian Authority, as the Palestinian education system is little more than a systematic hate indoctrination program, and you know it is bad when even Hillary Clinton had something to say about it as Secretary of State. While I cannot speak for everyone, I do not find watching little Palestinian children singing poems of hatred towards Jews to be in any way cute, and when you raise children from the very day they are born to hate, it can be guaranteed that they will someday, act on that hatred.
Now before you cast me off as some fear-mongering pessimist, I'd like to put it out there that I would love more than anything to be able to father my children and watch them play with Palestinian children living across the street. I believe that real peace will make the lives of both Israelis and Palestinians incomprehensibly better. Unfortunately, the Palestinian Authority is turning this utopian vision of peace into little more than a distant dream.I believe that sixty-five years of hatred and violence is sixty-five too many. We MUST put the pressure where it belongs: on the Palestinian Authority.
