Seventeen IDF soldiers on Wednesday night abandoned their base on Mount Hermon near the border with Syria.

The soldiers, members of the 12th Battalion of the Golani Brigade, left their post in protest of what they deemed humiliating treatment by their superiors.

The incident was investigated by the Brigade's commander, who tracked down the soldiers and convinced them to return to their base, according to an IDF statement. Thereafter, the commander initiated procedures to have the soldiers imprisoned.

The IDF Spokesman's Office condemned the soldiers' desertion and said that the army opposes every instance of non-compliance with orders.
