17 arrested for thefts of gas payment devices

Officers from the anti-fraud unit of the Israel Police and the Military Police on Wednesday arrested 17 people, including a number of soldiers, accused of running a large-scale scam that stole hundreds of dalkan (“automatic gas tank payment devices”).
Police said the value of the devices, stolen mainly from military vehicles, is in the millions of shekels.
The suspects, who were arrested following an undercover investigation, potentially face charges of fraud, theft, breaking and entering and counterfeiting.
On Wednesday, the Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court extended the suspects’ remands by four days.
The arrests came the day after Tel Aviv police arrested a career soldier suspected of supplying material to the main suspects in the attempted bombing of a city supermarket in mid-March.
