2 killed, 8 hurt in Russian shopping-mall fire

MOSCOW — Officials say two people have died and five have been hurt in a massive fire at a shopping mall in central Russia.

Emergency Ministry spokesman Vasily Khisamutdinov said Saturday that the fire engulfed the five-story shopping mall in Ufa. He said the fire started during construction in the building.

Mall visitors have been evacuated, and the wounded have been hospitalized, he said. Ufa is the capital of the oil-rich, Volga River province of Bashkortostan.
