Three 16-year-old Jewish youths were arrested Saturday on suspicion of assaulting an Arab man in East Jerusalem earlier in the week.

The three confessed to assaulting the Arab male, 28, but said they acted on the belief that he was "taking advantage of" a young Jewish girl.

The Arab man sustained a broken leg, which was treated at Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

The three suspects were brought Saturday evening to the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court for a remand hearing to extend their detention.

Police expected more arrests to be forthcoming.
