81-year-old charged with attempting to murder his wife

The Central District Attorney filed an indictment in the Petah Tikva District Court on Thursday, charging an 81-year-old Netanya resident with attempted murder and aggravated assault, after he stabbed his wife in the head with a butcher's knife last month.
According to the indictment, the defendant, who has not been named, decided to murder his wife last month after suspecting she was cheating on him.
The defendant armed himself with a butcher's knife and struck his wife four times on the head and once on her thigh as she lay sleeping, the indictment said.
Hearing her mother's screams, the couple's daughter allegedly rushed into the room and tried to grab the knife from the defendant's hands. In the struggle, the daughter sustained hand and shoulder injuries.
The defendant's wife was rushed to hospital and received emergency head surgery. Her injuries included a compressed cranial fracture, cerebral contusion, a 9 cm cut to her forehead, and several other large cuts on her face and leg.
