Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Israel will release 26 Palestinian prisoners on Sunday, December 29, as planned.

This would be the third of four rounds of security prisoner release Israel has agreed to as a gesture of goodwill to the Palestinians as a part of the ongoing peace talks.

"We will have important news in five days, as we will release 26 prisoners who were given many life sentences. This Christmas will turn into a happier holiday," Abbas said during a Christmas mass event in Bethlehem.

He also vowed to reach Palestinian unity between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip soon.
