Peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians were planned to begin soon, but were postponed due to continued construction in east Jerusalem, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said on Friday during an official visit to Tunisia.

Meanwhile on Friday, a Palestinian official stated that mediated talks would only begin once construction in Ramat Shlomo and Beitar Ilit ceased completely, and that direct talks would only begin once all settlement activity comes to a stop.
