Captured soldier Gilad Schalit's kidnappers should release him as soon as possible, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Tuesday during a press conference in Bethlehem with German President Christian Wulff, according to Israel Radio.

Abbas added that the soldier's release has nothing to do with the PA's demand that Israel release Palestinian prisoners, and also stressed that he has no influence over Hamas regarding Schalit.

The German president expressed hope toward the kidnapped soldier's return to his family and that the kidnappers will allow international representatives to visit him.
