Aharonovitch: Don't disband southern Border Police

Public Security Minister Yizhak Aharonovitch warned on Monday against army plans to disband the southern Border Police units that currently patrol the border with Egypt, saying they were key to intercepting drug smugglers and illegal migrants.
Aharonovitch said the move would increase crime "across the country," adding that criminals and terrorists would have an easier time entering Israel.
"So long as the border with Egypt has not been sealed and there are no physical obstacles on the ground, it would be a serious mistake to disband the Border Police in the south," the minister added.
