MOGADISHU - Somali rebel group al Shabaab said one of its suicide bombers was responsible for an explosion inside the heavily protected presidential palace compound on Wednesday and warned of more blasts.
"What a victory, inside the so-called presidential palace, more explosions and bombers will follow," Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, the spokesman for Al Shabaab's military operations told Reuters.
Al Shabaab claimed it had killed 17 people and wounded 30. Somali police gave a lower death toll.
"A suicide bomber killed five and injured 10 others, mostly soldiers in the palace," Colonel Abdullahi Barise, police spokesman, told Reuters.
