Amplats: S.Africa police tear gas mine protesters

JOHANNESBURG - South African police fired tear gas on Wednesday at a crowd of protesters in a township near a mine owned by Anglo American Platinum near Rustenburg, the company said.
"I can confirm that the SAPS (South African Police Service) used teargas to disperse an illegal gathering at Sondela informal settlement," spokeswoman Mpumi Sithole said in an email to Reuters.
