Arad: Abbas is either moody or waiting for elections

National Security Adviser Uzi Arad on Sunday evening said that the Palestinian Authority was being uncooperative, and suggested that PA President Mahmoud Abbas had rejected Israeli proposals to resume peace talks because of his own political interests.

“He's either in a bad mood, or is waiting for the elections or for an Arab League meeting,” Arad said at the Herzliya Conference.

“The reasons for Abu Mazzen's (Abbas's) attitude change, but the uncooperative policy goes on, and it's disappointing,” he said.

However, Arad asserted that “the stagnation is not necessary” and expressed hope that Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations would resume soon.
