Archbishop of Florence during WWII honored by Yad Vashem

Cardinal Elia Dalla Costa, archbishop of Florence during WWII, on Tuesday was designated the title of "Righteous Among the Nations" by the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial for his role in saving Italian Jews during the Holocaust.
Nicknamed "the Cardinal of Charity," Dalla Costa saved hundreds of Jews living in Florence by encouraging Catholic clergymen to open their doors them.
He also saved thousands of Italians from execution under Benito Mussolini's Fascist regime.
