The Transportation Ministry announced on Thursday that Arkia would begin to operate flights from Eilat to St. Petersburg. It will be the first time that a commercial airline operates international flights out of Eilat. Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz told Israel Radio that the initiative was meant to encourage and expand "the scope of competition and tourism" in Israel.
