NEW YORK - At least 15 civilians were seriously injured on Thursday in a four-alarm apartment fire in the Bronx borough of New York City, the city fire department said on its official Twitter account.

City police officer Tiffany Phillips added by telephone that there were an unknown number of fatalities in the blaze, but no further details were immediately available.

More than 160 firefighting personnel were on the scene, the fire department said.
