Ayalon: UNHRC sabotaging renewal of peace process

"The [UN] Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is sabotaging chances of renewing the peace process," Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon told UNHRC Chief Navi Pillai at a meeting on Wednesday.

Pillai's meeting with Ayalon came towards the end of a visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories, a trip intended to exposing the UN body to the complexities and dilemmas of the region.

Ayalon said that the Council's obsession with the Goldstone Report and its "political persecution" of Israel creates an atmosphere of hostility and mistrust and strengthens the Palestinians, which prevents them from returning to peace negotiations.
