Residents of northern Israel reported hearing a loud blast and what appeared to be the launch of a Patriot missile over the border with Syria Sunday morning.

The IDF Spokesperson's Office had no immediate comment.

There have been reports in recent days of intense fighting on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights between regime and rebel groups.

In the past anti-aircraft missiles were used to intercept incoming rocket attacks or attempts by enemy aircraft to enter Israeli territory.
