Defense Minister Ehud Barak held a phone conversation with Field Marshall Muhammad Tantawi of Egypt, head of the Supreme Military Council in Egypt.

Barak expressed admiration for Tantawi's leadership and discussed a range of issues with him, the Defense Ministry said in a statement, including the need to arrange the immediate release of abducted soldier Gilad Schalit, maintaining quiet along the Egyptian-Israeli borders, and additional security and regional issues.
