Barak to meet Galant to persuade him not to retire from IDF

Defense Minister Ehud Barak will meet with OC Southern Command Maj.-Gen. Yoav Galant on Sunday morning to try and persuade him not to retire from the IDF despite not being appointed deputy chief of staff. In an interview with Israel Radio, Industry, Trade and Labor Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer said that "action must be taken to ensure this excellent major general remains in the army." Over the weekend, dozens of senior military officials called Galant and asked him not to retire. Following the appointment of Maj.-Gen. Benny Gantz as deputy chief of staff on Friday, sources close to Galant reportedly said that "the chief of general staff is trying to throw Yoav out of the army."
