Barak to return early from Paris to vote on freeze

Defense Minister Ehud Barak shortened his trip to Paris and was scheduled to return to Israel Tuesday morning in order to take part in the cabinet vote on the building freeze.
Barak cancelled a speech in front of the Socialist International Committee on Disarmament in order to return. On Monday, he briefly met with Iraqi President Jalal Talibani, with whom Barak shares the Council's vice presidency.
Chief of General Staff Gabi Ashkenazi was visiting Canada at the time, making it the first time in many years that the country's two top military commanders were abroad at the same time.
