The trial of recently re-elected Bat Yam Mayor Shlomi Lahiani started on Sunday morning at the Tel Aviv magistrate's court.
Charges of fraud and bribery were read out against Lahiani, his brother Avraham and two Bat Yam businessmen.
During the hearing, Lahiani refused to answer questions on how he will continue serving as the mayor of Bat Yam while on trial, and said he will no longer talk to the press about the issue.
