CBS: Population rises to nearly 7.7 m.; 75% are Jewish

The Israeli population has grown to 7,695,000 Israeli citizens in December, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on Wednesday.

Of the 7,695,000 citizens, 5,802,000 (75.5 percent) are Jewish, 1,573,000 (20.4%) are Arab and 320,000 are defined as non-Arab Christians or those with an unspecified religion.

According to the CBS, The 143,000 (1.9%) increase in the population from 2009 is consistent with previous growth.

About 165,000 individuals were born and 40,000 died.
