The cabinet on Sunday approved the appointment of Yoav Galant as the country's 20th chief of general staff.

During Sunday's cabinet meeting Prime Minister Netanyahu praised Galant, saying that he has "proven himself  during 33 years on the IDF's front lines as a brave fighter, an excellent office, and as a balanced and responsible  commander in battle."

The cabinet appointment was for three years, with a possibility of a year's extension under special circumstances.
