Caesarea Golf gives back to community

Two tournaments played recently at the Caesarea Golf Club demonstrated the Club’s ongoing commitment to community support.

Under sunny autumn skies in late November, more than 120 golfers participated in the annual Or Akiva Cup. The tournament has become a symbol of the close relationship between the residents of Or Akiva and the neighboring golf club.

For the past 30 years, this competition has honored the memories of Hillel Yosef and Yigal Selah, two Club members from Or Akiva.

Each competing foursome was captained by an Or Akiva resident, and members of the Joseph and Salah families accompanied the players. Also participating were several disabled IDF veterans. This group has been warmly embraced by the Club, and has responded by producing amazing results that are a source of national pride.

The championship was won by the team of Tzion Bohbot, Israel Shore, Ronnie Mandelman and Hannah Brzeg. Kako Avnaim, Ofra Stop, Malcah Istrik and Michael Lesin came in second, with third place going to Ron Uziel, Jacob Weitz, Israel Osovitzki and Zohar Sharon.

Then, the “golf gods” were especially cooperative the following Monday. During an otherwise wintry week, the sun shone on 140 golfers who took part in the fifth annual Ezer Mitzion Tournament.

The tournament benefited Ezer Mitzion’s Bone Marrow Registry, the world’s largest Jewish registry that facilitates lifesaving stem cell transplants for patients internationally.

The team of Yossi Miller, Laurie Spieler, Alex Green and Terry Newman took top honors. Anthony Harris, Simmie Chiger and Herman Weiss came in second, while Rick Kaplan, Earis Kaplan, Larry Deverett and Joel Reinstein were third.
