Canadian man indicted in Iraq suicide bombing

NEW YORK - A Canadian citizen was indicted on Friday for aiding in a 2009 suicide-bomb attack that prosectors say killed five US soldiers near an American military base in Iraq.

Faruq Khalil Muhammed 'Isa, 38, who is an Iraqi national, was arrested and detained in Canada in January 2011, a spokesman for the US attorney's office in Brooklyn said.

According to a federal grand jury indictment returned on Friday, Isa helped arrange for four unnamed co-conspirators to travel from Tunisia to Iraq in March 2009 to carry out a suicide-bomb attack near the fence of the US Forward Operating Base Marez in Mosul, Iraq.

The attack killed five US soldiers: Staff Sergeant Gary Woods of Kentucky, Sergeant First Class Bryan Hall of California, Sergeant Edward Forrest Jr. of Missouri, Corporal Jason Pautsch of Iowa and Army Private First Class Bryce Gaultier of California, prosecutors said.
