China, Israel amp up flight agreements allowing up to 14 passenger flights

The Israeli and Chinese airport authorities have signed an agreement to allow for each state to operate up 14 passenger flights – rather than today's three – and seven cargo flights to one another, the Transportation Ministry announced on Monday. Not only does the agreement increase the number of flights, but it will also allow for more airlines to fly between the two countries and participate in code-sharing, the ministry said.

The current annual volume of passengers flying directly to and from Tel Aviv and Beijing is about 50,000, in addition to about 30,000 who take stopover routes.

"I believe that the agreement is likely to bring to Israel hundreds of thousands and even millions of Chinese fans of the history of the Israeli people and of Jewish sites, which attract millions of visitors from around the world," Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz said
