Churches in Israel are joining the fight against the nation-state law and urging attendance at the protest in Tel Aviv on Saturday night.
The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem publicized a message that the law does not provide constitutional guarantees for the rights of minorities and that Palestinian Israeli citizens, who constitute 20% of the population are not included in the bill. They called "to all citizens of the State of Israel who still believe in the basic concept of equality for the citizens of that state to express their opposition to this law and the dangers inherent in it for the future of this country."The Council of the Orthodox Church called for a widespread mobilization for the demonstration in Tel Aviv and said that the law denies the history of Palestinian existence in Israel, and severely violates their rights. The Council also warned about possible damage to the holy places of Christians and Muslims.
